MAINTENANCE, REFURBISHMENT, UPGRADES & NEW SYSTEMS

In 2020, Galvion secured a second consecutive helmet contract with the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) to supply advanced helmet systems, refurbishment services, and a comprehensive life extension program for its existing fleet of helmets. This contract ensures that DALO’s forces receive cutting-edge head protection and continued support throughout the lifecycle of their helmet systems.

The Challenge:

DALO required a reliable and forward-thinking solution for modernizing its fleet of helmets while ensuring the availability and operational capability of older, in-service models. The challenge lay in balancing the integration of next-generation helmet systems with the need to refurbish and upgrade the existing helmets, ensuring they met current and future mission requirements.

The Solution:

Galvion’s approach involved a combination of new product delivery, through-life refurbishment, and life extension services.

2020 Program is a 7-year Framework agreement, with 14-year Spare parts and life extension. New helmets supplied include PDxT and Caiman platform varietals.

In addition to delivering these cutting-edge helmets, Galvion also implemented a robust refurbishment and upgrade program for DALO’s existing helmets, Galvion’s Cobra® system. This included:

  • Upgrading legacy Cobra systems with the latest components, such as the APEX Liner and front mounts, to enhance performance.

  • Providing spare parts and life extension services to ensure the longevity of in-service helmets and extend their operational effectiveness.

  • Offering comprehensive training and support for DALO service teams, including instructional videos on maintenance and upgrades.

Starting in late 2020, Galvion began the delivery of these new helmet systems, with refurbishment and upgrade activities occurring concurrently in Denmark. The Galvion team worked closely with DALO to provide hands-on training and instructional support, ensuring the Danish forces could independently maintain and upgrade their helmet systems. This collaboration ensured minimal operational downtime during the transition and delivered a seamless integration of both new and refurbished equipment.

Key Benefits:

  1. Next-Generation Protection and Comfort: The new PDxT and Caiman helmets are designed to provide superior ballistic protection and comfort, with the integration of the advanced APEX Liner system.

  1. Improved Helmet Availability: Through the refurbishment and upgrade program, older helmets remain serviceable and relevant, reducing the need for large-scale replacements.

  1. Through-Life Support: Galvion’s life extension program ensures that the helmets continue to meet operational requirements for years to come, providing DALO with significant long-term value.

  1. Cost-Effective Solution: By extending the lifecycle of existing helmets and combining them with new helmet systems, DALO benefits from a more cost-efficient solution while maintaining the latest in helmet technology.

The combination of new helmet systems and through-life refurbishment programs underscores Galvion’s ability to provide tailored solutions that meet both immediate and future mission requirements.
